The YMCA’s Learning and Caring Center strives to provide a
warm and nurturing environment for your infants and potty trained
child up to 5 years old. Our program is designed to help your child
develop socially, intellectually and physically through a variety
of age appropriate activities. Our children have the unique
opportunity to utilize the YMCA facilities through recreational
swimming, a structured physical education program and the use
of our state of the art computer lab. Infants, young and older
toddlers occupy the first floor of our “Home Away from Home”
and our 4 and 5 year old pre-kindergarten children have their own “classroom” on our second floor. Our doors open at 6:30a.m. and
we close promptly at 6:30p.m.

Our program provides children with a classroom experience that best meets their developing needs. Each class offers the children a balanced program of free play and active play; group and individual time. Age appropriate activities provide a variety of fun learning experiences that revolve an Early Childhood Curriculum. But, the best of all is what only the YMCA can offer: Swimming and gym activities once a week. Our PreSchool is located on the thirs floor of our main building with a convenient drop-off and pick-up service.

The LatchKey Program is for children in Kindergarten through
sixth grade. It is open 6:30a.m. through 6:30p.m. Monday through
Friday during the school year. Children must reside in Stroudsburg
School District to participate so that they may use the school
transportation. In the morning, the children may use the computer
lab, play games, visit with friends, draw, or complete homework.
LatchKey Staff take each child to their respective buses at the
appropriate time. In the In In the afternoon, the staff meet the
children at the bus stop in front of the YMCA building and escort
them to the LatchKey area. After they are offered a snack, the
children may make choices of the following areas: gym, Computer
Lab, Homework Room, Art Room, in-room games, puzzles and
drawing. On one day a week, the children may participate in a free
swim time. The Kindergarten children participate in a wrap around
Kindergarten program that gives them a wide assortment of
activities. Both morning and afternoon children have opportunities
to participate in an active gym time, circle time, art, discovery,
and free choices. Kindergarten children coming in the afternoon
are also offered a snack daily and swimming once a week. Other
extra options available are Scouts, plus the Staff will take them to
other lessons (i.e. swimming) if offered at the YMCA at the time
the children are here. In all the groups we encourage the children
to try new things, and promote the YMCA’s core values honesty,
caring, respect, and responsibility.

Available to students from Stroudsburg and Notre Dame Schools
for Grades 4th – 6th.
The Dominic Lockwood Youth Center is
located on the corner of 9th and Ann Street in Stroudsburg. The
staff picks up the Notre Dame students from the bus stop on Main
Street and the Stroudsburg students get dropped off directly at the
Youth Center, where the staff is waiting for their arrival. Once the
students enter the building, a variety of snacks are provided for the
students every day. Then quiet time is set aside for the students to
allow for homework to be done. The students can opt to go to the
gym, in which case the Youth Center staff will walk with the children
over to the main building. After quiet time, the students have the
choice to utilize the computers, which have monitored internet
access, pool table, fuzzball table, ping pong, arts and craft activities
and a variety of other games. One day a week, the students have
the choice to go swimming. The Youth Center also provides services
for the students when there are days off and/or have snow days.*

The Latchkey program is for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. It is open 6:30 am - 6:30 pm, Mon. - Fri. during the school year. In the morning, the children may play games, visit friends, draw, or finish homework. In the afternoon, the staff will meet the children in their schools and escort them to the Latchkey area. After they are offered a snack, the children may make choices of the following activities: homework area, art area, in-room games, outside play, gym, puzzles, drawing. In all the groups, we encourage the children to try new things and promote the YMCA's core values: honesty, caring, repsect, and responsibility.
