Group Exercise

Healthy living through physical activity is central to the Y’s cause. The YMCA’s Group Exercise programs are fun and interactive ways to engage members in activity and positively impact their health. Tailored to health seekers, group exercise classes provide a variety of experiences that are designed to engage individuals in a supportive group setting, enhancing social bonds and strengthening community.

Members who participate in YMCA Group Exercise programs have improved physical activity, enhanced overall well-being, and heightened self-mastery to stay motivated to participate and engage in physical activity over a sustained period of time.

 

Group Exercise Class Descriptions 

Classes run monthly and require a minimum number of participants to remain on the schedule.

AFEP (Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program): This class, formally titled P.A.C.E., will increase range of motion, flexibility, and strength. Ideal class for the first time exerciser or those with arthritis.

Ashtanga Yoga: This method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.

BeachBody Fit: a cross-training method that switches the order of exercises and incorporates varied movements. It is believed that muscle confusion prevents the body from adapting to exercises over time, resulting in continual improvement and minimizing plateaus.

Bootcamp: This “military style” class mixes traditional calisthenics and body weight exercises with interval training.

Cardio Mix: This fun class incorporates cardio intervals to target different areas of the body.

Chair Drumming: Have fun with the rhythms of the drum in this movement workout , specifically designed to enhance emotional and cognitive health.

Chair Yoga: A gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting in a chair, or standing while using the chair for support.

Chair Zumba: Less intense than traditional Zumba but with a twist; this class uses high-tempo music with chair-based choreography.

Core Balance:  This gentle class will strengthen your core, improve mobility, and better your balance.

Dance & Movement: This class promotes greater mobility, self-confidence, physical awareness, social interaction, and expressiveness through dance moves.

Dance 2B Fit: Not only a great cardio workout, but a fantastic way to release your everyday stress while having fun.

Drenched: A high-energy, barefoot class that combines interval training with dynamic strengthening and flexibility.

F2: This specialty class, created by Dwayne, will give you a full-body barbell workout, leaving you both spent and swole!!!

Mat Stretch:  Perfect 30-minute class for anyone dealing with muscle/joint stiffness, weakness, or fatigue. By connecting breath with movement, learn how to practice self-awareness and self-care.

Metafit:  A style of high intensity training designed to boost your fitness, rocket your energy levels, and stimulate your fat-burning, all in just 30 minutes.

On The Ball: A unique and fun approach to fitness by using stability balls to balance, shape, and strengthen your body...let’s roll!

Qigong:  “Life Energy Cultivation” is a holistic system of coordinated body posture and movement, breathing, and meditation used for health, spirituality, and martial arts training.

PiYo: Combining the practices of Pilates and Yoga together, Piyo is a total body fitness class designed to get you in shape by increasing flexibility and building strength to help promote weight loss.

Roll & Release: This Foam Roller class (bring your own) will teach you how to release and relax your muscles. A must for anyone who works out.Silver & Fit: This class is designed for older adults looking for a well-balanced exercise routine. Participating in this class will increase your heart health, muscular endurance and strength, flexibility, and balance.

Silver Sneakers: These signature classes are designed specifically to help Medicare eligible individuals (65 and older) improve overall fitness.

Silver Sneakers Yoga: A complete series of seated and standing postures designed to improve flexibility, balance, mental clarity, while promoting stress reduction.

Spinning: Each ride will promote one or more of the Energy Zones (Endurance, Strength, and Interval) for a complete approach to fitness.

Step & Sculpt:  A fun, choreographed step class incorporating various elements of resistance training.

Stretch & Tone: Ideal for beginner exercises, or anyone looking to balance out their workouts with a low-impact class that will help to build muscle endurance while learning proper techniques for stretching.

Tai-Chi: This ancient Chinese practice, known as “moving meditation”, stimulates the body’s energy flow while deepening one’s innate calm.

TRX: This suspension training program uses body-weight resistance to build strength, balance, flexibility, and core stability with hundreds of functional exercises that can easily adjust to all fitness levels.

TRX Metabolic:  In this advanced class, we will take suspension training to the next level where we break our intensity barriers.

TRX Yoga: This brand new take on Yoga leverages the TRX Suspension Trainer to enhance and assist your practice to build true resilience.

Vinyasa Yoga:  Awaken your energy and flexibility while coordinating conscious breath with mindful movement as you move from one pose to the next.

Yoga: An ancient art form involving precise postures, breathing exercises, and meditation. Develops harmony between mind, body, and spirit.

Country Heat
If you can walk, you can do the Country Heat dance fitness program. And if you can do Country Heat, you can lose weight! When was the last time you actually had FUN trying to lose weight?
