Volunteer Opportunities
Hundreds of YMCA volunteers participate each year as fund raising volunteers, policy board members, support staff, youth sports coaches, computer networking and web-site staff, leaders for our special events, and trades people to help us with our improvements. Volunteers read in our childcare programs, help us landscape, repaint our facilities, and help with bulk mailings. In each of these activities you gain more than we do. You gain in good feelings knowing that you have done something for someone in need, and you also gain new friends along the way!
County Wide Annual Support Campaign
Each year, February through August, we conduct our annual support fundraising campaign. Contributions made during this campaign enable us to fulfill our mission of building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities. If our communities are to be strong, safe, and healthy, all children and teens regardless of economic limitations, should have the opportunity to participate in the YMCA. Part of the funds raised during this campaign enable us to provide scholarship and financial assistance to ensure that the children of Monroe County are not denied access to YMCA programs due to a lack of ability to pay. To be able to fulfill our vision of building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities, we must have the necessary programs, facilities, and equipment. Another portion of the donations made during this campaign go toward continuing to improve our facilities, equipment, and programming.
Heritage Club - Endowment
The Heritage Club is a group of people who believe in the need to build strength for the future of the YMCA. Their vision for the YMCA and the health of our community extends beyond the needs of today. They recognize that the YMCA will continue to play a critical role in the future of the children and families of Monroe County, so they are making an investment in that future now through an outright or planned gift to the YMCA’s endowment. A contribution of $1,000 or more to the YMCA endowment is necessary for Heritage Club membership. Your gift can be made in a number of ways depending on your individual preference and situation. Pick up a Heritage Club Brochure in the lobby.
Dominick A. Lockwood Youth Center Endowment Fund
Donations made to the Lockwood Youth Center are put into an endowment fund to ensure the long-term viability of the Center. Proceeds of the fund are used to maintain the facility and equipment and to provide free use of the facility to youth and teens who would otherwise not have the opportunity. Pick up a Lockwood Endowment Brochure in the lobby.
Capital Campaigns
From time to time we conduct major fund raising campaigns to improve our facilities or open new locations to serve the county.
Fundraising Events
Each year we hold 5 major fundraising events. In the spring we hold our Kid’z Faire, in the summer our Yard Sale and Golf Tournament, in October our Bike Tour, and in November our 5K race. We always need volunteers and sponsors to help us with these events. See the Member Services Desk for more information on these events.
Instructors Wanted
Do you have a skill or hobby you can teach to others? Are you interested in being trained to do something you enjoy? The YMCA is always seeking instructors for programs which may be of interest ot our members or to help with existing programs. Contact the appropriate Program Director for more information.
